Council Member Biography

Stephen A. Bent is Partner and former co-leader of the Life Sciences Industry Team at Foley & Lardner in Washington, DC. He is also a member of the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice Group and the Health Care and Nanotechnology Industry Teams. Mr. Bent specializes on the legal issues associated with biotechnology asset valuation and management, venture capital, licensing and technology transfer, corporate acquisitions, and disputes involving biotechnology and pharmaceutical patents. He has developed an international reputation in biotechnology intellectual property law, with a number of publications to his credit in both scientific and legal journals, including articles titled "The Scylla & Charybdis Face Integrated Genomics," "Patents and Genomic Medicine," and "The Heat Is On: What is Driving Pharmaceutical Developments in the U.S. Now?" Mr. Bent has participate in a number of events on stem cell research and advanced pharmaceutical and biotech IP licensing. The Practical Law Company's 2004/2005 Cross Border Life Sciences Handbook ranks Mr. Bent as one of the top five U.S. life sciences attorneys in the IP category. He has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in "The Best Lawyers in America 2007" in the area of biotechnology law. (This is me - Update Profile)
