Breast Cancer Education Bill

Detecting a Bad Breast Cancer Bill | www.rollcall.com

The author is correct that the occurrence of breast cancer in the population being educated by these grants is very small. The intent, one would assume, is to educate these teens and young adults so that when they reach normal screening age they would be more compliant. Unfortunately, there is little evidence that more education makes women more compliant.

St. John's Wort: As good a s prescription drugs

St John's Wort 'as good as Prozac' | ukpress.google.com

St. John's Wort has been used for many years by herbalists to treat the symptoms of depression. Most herbal references I have reference it as a treatment for depression. The products are not regulated and therefore could contain different levels of the active ingredient. As well, the standard dosages may vary from vendor to vendor. Having used St. Johns Wort I can say from personal experience, while quitting smoking, that it does have some merit

Hospital transparency an illusive ideal

August 6, 2008

Transparency in Healthcare | www.hospitalimpact.org

Patients requiring health care today demand quality.  Quality from their physician, their diagnostic services, and the insurance companies.CMS already mandates certain levels of quality and hospitals.  They assure these quality levels by doing spot inspections, and also contracting with the joint commission, which mandates certain levels of care in order to get paid by CMS. Most patients desire to trust the physicians and hospitals that they choose for their care.  Many patients when asked will say that they do not know the reason they are having a certain test or procedure only that the physician has requested it be performed.  Often they simply want to trust the physician to care for them in the appropriate manner. people requiring health care would like to have transparency in pricing. It would be great for patients to understand the cost of their health care, and the actual reimbursement.

Health Care IT 2008 outlook

January 23, 2008

Radical health IT changes not expected in '08 | www.fiercehealthit.com

2008 will be a difficult year for many Health care facilities due to Medicare reimbursement cuts. It is likely that IT spending will not increase significantly due to budget constraints. Specifically, independent facilities may wait on all but the mandatory upgrades or installations.
