Council Member Biography

Walter Mitchell is well recognized for providing rigorous research, analysis and advisory services for stakeholders who have interest in regional and international maritime sectors. Mr. Mitchell has 30+ years of sea-going and executive experience with shipowners and charterers in the dry-bulk, tanker, offshore, ports and inland waterways, and investment banking sectors. He has High-level expertise in seaborne trade analysis; structure, operation and economics of shipping markets; M&A support. Mr. Mitchell’s clients include OPEC-member oil shippers; producers/shippers of steel-making raw materials & power generation fuels; ag products; investment banks and shipping ventures; and ship operations issues. He had an Executive tour at BHP-Utah Minerals (now BHP-Billiton). Mr. Mitchell has Marine licenses as 3rd Mate-oceans + 3rd Engineer steam/motor. He is a Member, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers-London, director of several corporate entities. Mr. Mitchell holds a B.Sc. Marine Transportation, US Merchant Marine Academy and graduate work at the University of California at Berkeley. Presently, He is a Principal at Mitchell Consulting Group.
