Definition:

Specialty Pharmacy

A specialty pharmacy services a niche that most traditional retail community pharmacies do not. In so doing, the pharmacist is typically able to provide a higher level of expertise, support, and service to the patient within that niche. Some areas of specialty include, but are not limited to: compounded prescriptions, home infusion, HIV/AIDS, immune deficiency, oncology, hepatitis, psoriasis, pain, infertility, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, transplants, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and chronic kidney disease.
