Intellectual Property

A legal term encompassing several different types of rights that permit an owner of the rights to exclude others from using the subject matter of the intellectual property in question. The term generally reflects the idea that the property is of the mind. Forms of intellectual property include patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade dress, and trade secrets.
