United States Patent and Trademark Office

The USPTO (or PTO) is the agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce that provides patents and trademarks to inventors and businesses. The USPTO is located in Alexandria, Va. Patent and Trademark Examiners at the USPTO examine patent and trademark applications to determine whether they should be issued.
