Yes the price of fuel has dropped. But airlines have not let go of any of the fees they brought in last year - ostensibly to cover the sharply higher fuel costs. So the industry keeps the extra revenues while their cost of production has dropped substantially. This seems to indicate that the industry has learned that the model pioneered by Ryanair works and that every chance to add ancillary revenues needs to be grasped with both hands.

The amount of brand damage jetBlue suffered on Valentine's Day was massive. It was so bad, even the then CEO David Neeleman used the word "mortified" to describe his reaction. Shortly after this, he was outsed. The airline came across as doing its business on the cheap and having no depth. In a word cheap.
