IT Outsourcing: How Offshoring Can Kill Innovation | www.cio.com
Two Harvard Business School Professors, David Pisano and Willy Shih, argue that offshoring IT services can damage the corporation, and use Manufacturing as case in point. In the ICT industry outsourcing and especially offshoring (that is outsourcing to far away low cost countries) have long been pitched as panacea: quite to the contrary.Common sense is now restated by two HBS scholars after extensive research: one should be very careful in selecting the IT service that can be offshored.

CORRECT: Fundtech Agrees To S1 Merger In Deal That Values Co At $318 Million | online.wsj.com
Clearly, bigger is an advantage for bank tech providers. With Fiserv and FIS as the two 800 pound gorillas, the small and mid-tier players need to successfully consolidate to thrive. There is probably room for a third gorilla, and not many good reasons for keeping around the small chimps.

Made (again) in the USA: The return of American manufacturing | finance.fortune.cnn.com
The article neatly presents several of the reasons for the return of manufacturing to America, but it is not complete.I will argue there are two more reasons, namely:- the ever faster product churn-out in most industries- the progress in 3D design and rapid prototyping Also, when thinking of the support that manufacturing brings to employment and the economy at large, one should stress that investing in manufacturing facilities brings stability over the medium term to local economies.

Public acceptance: the energy sector's biggest headache | www.europeanenergyreview.eu
In recent days EU has warned Italy that if work did not start to build the new high speed train line with France, they would loose all Community funds. In the albeit complex political and legal framework that governs public works in Italy, all entities had agreed that this train line is a good thing for the country, allowing better reach from West to Eastern Europe. Left, center and right parties all agreed. Not the local community: the site was blocked and police had to come in with tear gas.

Consumer scale to counter NIMBY

Public acceptance: the energy sector's biggest headache | www.europeanenergyreview.eu
Most energy projects face a distinct risk with public opinion: local communities require convincing and even incentives to accept new power stations in their territory, and this also applies to wind farms and PV parks.Still, consumers actually embrace enthusiastically their "private" installations: from the small wind turbine to building integrated photovoltaic panels, to more complex geo-thermical sources, when energy is made for direct consumption acceptance is more readily available.
