In the late 1970s and early 1980s, several nuclear power plant construction projects experienced major problems related to design and construction quality. Long timelines in the project construction cycles made many utilities going broke. Even before the nuclear renaissance can really take off, one has to examine whether utilities , contractors and designers have gained from the knowledge from the mistakes of the past period with changes in the quality of design and construction methods.

It is reported that China accounted for 72 percent of the global IPO proceeds raised in 2009, Almost half the companies that went public in cleantech last year were in China, with 11 IPOs in the fourth quarter alone raising a record combined $3.1 billion.The largest cleantech IPO of 2009 was China Longyuan Electric Power Group which raised $2.23 billion on the Hong Kong exchange. China Huaneng Group, the country's largest power producer is to raise $1 billion from a Hong Kong IPO this year.

The Central Asia-China gas pipeline which is a US$7.3bn project, 1,833 km long with 188 km going through Turkmenistan, 530 from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, and 1,115 km from Kazakhstan to China has been inaugurated on the 14th December.The West-East Gas Pipeline crossing China is over 4,500 km long, making of the joint pipelines the longest in the world. With this Turkmenistan, so far dependent on Gazprom for 70% of its export of natural gas has now better options.

GWEC estimates that around half a million people are now employed by the wind industry around the world. US too has the highest wind capacity installed year to year in 2009.Therefore though the national unemployment rate continues to be a concerning 10 percent, job growth in the the wind industry goes highest in decades, touching more than 27 percent for US alone with capacity increase of 39 percent.
