The author has emphasized an area that is not a serious issue in most installations and at the same time has missed an opportunity to educate the reader on one exposure that can lead to the very serious consequence of having to reboot servers. In addition, the author failed to bring up two very important aspects: mouse synchronization with IP enabled KVM switches as well as the ability of seeing all installed KVM switches as part of best practices within the context of IT infrastructure.

Cisco’s Sales Will Drop as Much as 17%, Chambers Says | www.bloomberg.com
Cisco's strengths and challenges for their first fiscal quarter and beyond can be further defined when we compare them to their competition. Juniper, HP ProCurve, Avaya, Brocade (Foundry), Nortel, 3COM are vendors that can help us define and understand Cisco. Cisco's success may very well be due to the weakness of their competition versus the strengths of Cisco. In addition, with $30 plus billion of cash they are better positioned than most.

VMware unveils its cloud OS; Wants to be a bridge for the enterprise | blogs.zdnet.com
The best new feature of VMware v4.0 (dubbed vShphere) is the inclusion of "FT" - Fault Tolerance. Essentially, if a primary server fails, the 2nd "Shadow" server will seamlessly assume the role of the primary server. This means - zero - downtime. There are certain caveats, such as shared storage is required and a high speed link between the 2 servers is assumed, but IF you need true fault tolerance, this is a great idea.

Tthey are hoping that this credit and reduction in price will increase sales since retail session begins in fourth quarter. They made a mistake in the pricing and now they are trying correct it. I will be curious to see if the pricing drops again in December. My opinion is that it will not. I think they will prepare for retail season and hope for the best.
Virtualization - Desktops - Servers - Storage
June 26, 2007
Embracing the World of Virtualization | www.minyanville.com
Virtualization is rapidly gaining ground in medium and large firms. Many have deployed VMWare which enables many Operating Systems to reside on a single Server. This technology is being installed every day in more and more date centers. Maximizing CPU utilization is a mainstream topic. Citrix enables dozens of users to have "virtual" desktops, supplied seamlessly by a single server. All a user needs is a browser, point to the Citrix server and voila, he/she has a full secured set of desktop applications. Storage is now virtualized by software. For example, multiple servers attach to a "box of disks" also called a SAN, Storage Area Network. This SAN removes the concept of "these disks belong with this server". All servers share all the disks.
