Corn Products Finally Acquires National Starch- Will Bunge Move on Tate & Lyle?

Corn Products International has announced it is acquiring National Starch from Akzo Nobel for $1.3 billion. Bunge had attempted to acquire Bunge with stock 2 years ago but the deal fell through as shares collapsed. Bunge Ltd still has some cash, will it now try to acquire T&L?

Fishmeal prices have surged in the past year to a record high of $1937 a metric ton, or over 85% in the last year, impacting aquaculture and piglet feeds around the world. The increase in fishmeal prices also supports the price of soybean meal and corn gluten meal.

The eruption of the volcano system at the Eyjafjallajokull Glacier in Iceland has been impacting flights in northern Europe. The eruption to date is not enough to impact the outlook for crops in Europe, but if it were to continue to blow for the next few months, European supplies of wheat and oilseeds could be seriously impacted effecting world prices and major companies' results.
