The huge cost of developing TV ICs means that there aren't enough opportunities to go round. Micronas concluded that the reward didn't justify the risk, and NXP is in the sameposition, hastened by its debt burden. NXP is effectively contracting the restructure to Trident, which is shouldering the risk of restructuring and consolidation to end up as one of the last men standing.

It’s not as reactionary or impulsive as some have suggested and a plan I think has been in the process for the past three years.
