Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Industry Market Dynamics

EDA industry makes software that creates semiconductor products. The semiconductor industry is expected to grow (see iSuppli [1], TSMC[2] ) 22% in 2010 to reach a level close to $280B. The size of the EDA industry is in the range $4-5B (50X smaller than the market of products it creates) and its fortune tends to be tied to the cycles of the semiconductor market. We look at some factors influencing the market dynamics in the EDA industry.

This was the second incident that NSN has with their HLR that could prove to be costly.

Tellabs' main play in wireless so far has been in the backhaul, voice quality products, and transmission. Moving in the packet core is not going to change Tellabs' position within the mobile operators significantly.

ClearWire's radio access technology is based on WiMAX and not in line with the technology that mobile operators are looking to deploy.Best partnership model for T-Mobile would be to use the spectrum, but deploy LTE radio of their own which makes the relationship very costly.The Sprint's ownership in ClearWire cannot be overlooked to see whether they would allow their competitors to gain access.
