Konecranes Starts Statutory Negotiations in Headquarter Functions in Hyvinkää | www.konecranes.com
KoneCranes has experienced a 40-50% decline in orders year over year and a restructuring plans in not only warranted but a must. The demand for cranes both in the industrial as well as construction and on/off-shore has declined so rapidly that unless drastic actions are taken companies as Kone and others including Demag and Terex are at risk for survival.
No Moral Comparison / EU handouts to Airbus and Boeing business with Uncle Sam
August 31, 2009
WTO to rule next week on Airbus funding dispute | www.google.com
To state that a hand to Airbus from Germany , France and Britain is the moral equivalent to legitimate services rendered by Boeing to the US government is none sense . The Europeans must learn how to do business and compete in the real world and subsidies is immoral and anti-competitive. The European and EU Government complain about China and other Asian dumping laws yet they practice the same.

Dell Profit Falls 23% on Lower Sales | online.wsj.com
Clearly Dell missed out not being an established retail PC brand as consumers shifted from desktops to notebooks, and with it their shopping behaviors. But, since Michael Dell returned as CEO in 2007, Dell has established relationships with many of the largest retailers around the world, and now has over 40,000 retail points of distribution, yet consumer growth has been slow and difficult.

Walmart’s Profit Tops Analysts’ Estimates on Cost Reductions | www.bloomberg.com
In their recent earnings report, WalMart said "The chain also attracted more customers, helped by price reductions on its Sam's Choice Black Angus beef patties, baked beans and flat-panel televisions to lucre customers." Beef patties, baked beans and flat-panel TVs?? Never before have these three items come together to deliver favorable earnings results -- is this part of the "new normal", and if so, how does Best Buy compete with that?

Chrysler CEO Says New Board Coming With Fiat Deal | www.nytimes.com
The U.S. Government in cooperation with the Senior Management of Fiat is going to appoint a new board of directors for this new joint company. Fiat is for all practical purposes a two market auto manufacturer; the home country…Italy (62%), and South America (38%). Chrysler LLC is a one market manufacturer in North America (72%) (Recognizing Graz, Austria (28%) for Minivans & Jeep). Respectively in those markets both companies loose money.

Chrysler Plan Trims Fiat's Stake, Cuts Out Cerberus | online.wsj.com
The US car makers ,especially GM and Chrysler, have caused self inflicting injuries on their operations and other orgnizations that work with them and for them. , I have written in the fall of 2008 about the ultimate need for GM and Chrysler to file for chapter 11 and reorganize under the supervision of the court and have then explained the merits of filing and how fitting these companies' circumstances to such filing. My article was not that popluar at the time ,because I think the auto industry insiders are and still in denial with the arrogance that how could it be possible that GM is in Bankruptcy ? well it is possible and if this was done early on, we the tax payers would not have to throw good money after bad money , and also the bleeding would perhaps have stopped ..sort off.Chapter 11 to flush out the old GM and Chrysler and emerge as a new, strong, leaner and perhaps smaller companies is the answer, of course with a different management team that know the real world.
PC Sales Declines or Defections?
March 13, 2009
Gartner : PC Sales To See Worst fall In History | ews.zdnet.com
As the current economy is moving corporations and consumers to slow down their PC spending, iPhone-like devices (that is smarter than the generic ‘smartphone’ category today), and other more portable devices are moving in to provide greater value, and likely a more permanent impact on the PC category. Forward looking companies must leverage their current assets and what they do best while carving out their spot in the future.
Netbooks – Grown Up Smart Phone or Stripped Down PC?
March 13, 2009
Intel Readies Push Into Mobile Intenet Devices | www.businessweek.com
If it’s a grown up smart phone, it means higher average selling prices (ASPs) for the category and an expanded market opportunity. It it’s a stripped down PC it means lower ASPs and cannibalization of an existing market. If it’s truly a new category, Apple may be behind it. There’s clearly a gap between smart phones and notebooks and along with Intel, both and notebook and smartphone makers are eager to fill it. The question is who will fill it best from a use model, and, who can fill it in a way that will broaden their market rather than cannibalizing their existing businesses. Apple, the current leader in designing mobile lifestyle devices, should benefit from having hung back to observe the market dynamics and reactions to the netbook category before jumping in themselves.
