Video Gamers - Predictable to Fickle, Serious To Silly, Can EA Make The Shift?

February 12, 2009

Electronic Arts Reports Loss, Accelerates Cost Cuts | www.bloomberg.com

Worldwide sales of video game software grew 20% in 2008, outselling DVD and Blu-Ray for the first time. The good news is video games have clearly become much more popular with a much bigger audience.  Traditionally associated most with young males, now more young girls, men and women over 40 and females of all ages are playing than ever before - 97% of all teens now play video games regularly. The down side of this exploding popularity is a more fickle and less predictable audience, with very different preferences and behaviors than the “traditional” gamers.  Clearly this escaped Electronic Arts (NASDQ:ERTS) last year, with just one game in the top 10 titles for the year.

GM, Ford Sales Collapse May Force Deeper Industry Restructuring | www.bloomberg.com

Restructuring plans are simple; “What do we design?”, “What do we engineer?”, “What do we manufacture?”, “What do we assemble?” Brand it, Market it, Sell it and get rid of the rest.

Bailout the automakers ..no way

November 24, 2008

‘Peak-oil’ doomsayers catch Wall St.’s attention | www.iht.com

The problem with Detroit is arrogance and know it all..for years now the leadership at Detroit three auto makers insisted on not briniging new and fresh blood from the outside..you do not the autombile industry , you are no good. Yet there are  tremendous talents out there that can can help bring about new ideas and approaches for automaking.Except for A. Mullaly and by accident Nardelli..look at who is running Detroit...they keep producing  ineffecient cars ,not to the liking of the current generation of Americans and for that matter the global markets, and un-negotiated labor contracts that are unbelievably expensive and putting the US automakers at a $2000 disavantage  per car than the competition, yet they come to DC and say they employ 3.0 people, they pay health care to current employees and retirees...and I ..I.. I.. and you owe. No the tax payer does not owe you and you should run your business as most companies do and let the free market forces decide...Detroit needs a revamp

Studios Should Put Blu-ray Money Where It Counts Most - At Retail

November 11, 2008

Studios, consumer electronic firms to promote Blu-ray discs | www.latimes.com

Blu-ray is an impressive, but only an evolutionary, improvement in picture quality. It doesn’t offer lifestyle or use model changes, it costs more and has fewer titles available than standard DVD. Picture quality improvement is compelling to movie and video aficionados, but to the rest of, and most of, the world?   In today’s economy most shoppers are looking for new value for their money, or at least more value.

Is This The End of Circuit City?

October 9, 2008

CREDIT Circuit City Loses Recommendation | www.washingtonpost.com

Credit managers are extremely nervous right now about many things outside of their control.  One thing they can control is limiting their risk.  Making the decision to cut off, or fatally limit, the credit of a long standing and large customer like Circuit City may be a hard decision to make, but with this change in recommendation by credit rating firm Bernard Sands, it just got much easier.

Not so fast either...outsourcing continues

October 8, 2008

Is Outsourcing to China Over? | www.inc.com

The writer of the article is seemingly unware of the trends that are taking place in outsourcing to low cost producing countries, including China and India and has not been following the apparent trends that are shifting the landscape not only for large manufacturing companies but even the mid sized and the smaller , these do not only include metal bending but also engineering brains beyond IT.

Knowledge Lead to Confidence, and Confidence Leads to Buying

October 2, 2008

Multchannel Consumers Favor Online-To-Store Shopping Experience | www.directmag.com

Study after study has proven that shoppers who browse, search and research online first and then buy in-store, spend more and return less.   The fact that 75% of multi-channel consumers prefer to move from clicks to bricks when shopping, while 7% reverse the direction is VERY good news for retailers, and the smartest retailers are making it as easy as possible for their customers to make the move from clicks to bricks, resulting in higher conversion rates, higher ticket, and higher customer satisfaction.
