A careful examination of the trends would suggest that the setting of the DVD window is not at all arbitrary and is derived instead from the release pattern of the films in a year. Exhibitors may fume, but they may shoulder a lot of the blame for the narrowing because of the glut of auditorium inventory that has resulted from the decade's movie palace building boom.
