I had an email exchange with comScore this morning based on yesterday’s press release. I was told that yesterday’s numbers are only “IYP” and not “Local Search” (see the July, 2006 data). While this takes us down the circuitous path of definitions that are no longer really meaningful, it also raises some basic questions about what’s included and what’s not.

Here’s a story from Bob Tedeschi in today’s NY Times that shows e-commerce growth is slowing. This slowing should not be confused with the influence of the Internet on consumer purchase behavior, which is growing and will continue to grow (including in mobile). What we’re talking about here is the “location” of the transaction, which overwhelmingly will be in a local store today and in the future.
