Commissions: To Take or Not To Take. The Debate Continues.....

Insurance brokers reconsider taking insurer commissions | www.marketwatch.com
The controversy of contingent commissions is not a new one. This debate has caused significant changes to our views of broker payments, disclosure, ethics, and loyalty. The central question started off as being one about disclosure. Theoretically, if the client is aware then there isn't an issue. If this article is any indication, the debate is far from over. Aon, Marsh, Willis Group and Arthur J. Gallagher have all dealt with repercussions from investigations. Even though full disclosure is now a standard business practice, the question still remains.

1. Tell the insured what their new policy covers Point of Sale and remind them to read, file, and call the agent if there are any questions. Also schedule an Annual Policy Review to reiterate the coverages even if the insured has suffered no losses during the policy period. 2. Inform the insured of the "Duties of the Insured," meaning protect the subject of insurance from further damage and call the agent, not the insurance company immediately. 3. Let the insured know to begin contacting contractors, bodyshops, etc. to obtain estimates for repair. Advise the insured of the dollar amount of their deductible and to keep any out-of-pocket receipts generated as a result of the loss for reimbursement.
To Outsource or Not To Outsource...Insurance Providers Are No Exception

Insurance Outsourcing Focuses on India | www.insurancejournal.com
Insurers unlike other industries have had profitability to mask their cost inefficiencies. I have yet to get an immediate answer of (CFO, CHRO, CTO)'s of large insurers or integrated financial services companies to the question what is the cost of their function. Forget for a minute they are support functions to the businesses they lead. Core to the outsoursing question is understanding the true cost to serve and then where and if can it be done better. These functional leaders need to understand the cost to serve of their entire function, their core processes within their functions and then finally prepare a business case for what should be done internally that is core to their business and what could be done externally to the extent it is both cost efficient and cost effective.
