October 7, 2011

As overall foodservice industry performance continues slow but gradual improvement, the ongoing financial condition of the consumer will remain the best indicator for the future health of the industry. What Chain Restaurant Operators are Saying About the Environment

June 23, 2011

Our meeting last week with several large restaurant chain operators and product manufacturers brought to light several critical business challenges and opportunities in the market. While higher costs for commodities and fuel are top of mind concerns for all companies, a desire for higher levels of strategic collaboration between the operator and manufacturer was cited as the most critical aspect in protecting and growing market share in a challenging business environment.

RONALD McDONALD is here to stay !

May 26, 2011

McDonald's under pressure to fire Ronald | online.wsj.com

Rumors of McOpCo fazing-out Ronald McDonald is pure fallacy. The Ronald character is the cornerstone of McDonald's concept and truly admired by their kid's consumers. The notion that Ronald is associated solely with 'bad-for-you' menu and food selections is hideous. The Ronald character is simply an identification with, and for, the McDonald's brand.

Heightened Focus on Freight Management: Restaurants and Foodservice Distributors

March 31, 2011

Major restaurant chains seeking to stabilize food costs and menu prices have now heightened their focus beyond the direct contracting of product costs with food manufacturers, to the assessment of costs associated with transporting contracted product from the manufacturer to the point of distribution. This focus brings new scrutiny to the efficiency of foodservice distributors who rely on freight income as an important source of revenue.

Foodservice Distributors and the Transition to Consultative Selling

March 24, 2011

Foodservice distributors face an increasingly difficult challenge in maintaining an appropriate balance in their sales mix between low margin contract sales and higher margin business with independent restaurants, which face continuing difficulty in competing with the scale of major restaurant chains. Distributors are realigning their traditional selling model through more strategic allocation of selling resources to provide for more value-added consultative activity with independent customers.

Rising Food Cost and Foodservice Margins

February 22, 2011

The impact of rising food costs will play out differently between major restaurant chains and independent restaurants, where scale and purchasing clout will mitigate the impact for some. On the supply side, foodservice distributor margins are under pressure as rapidly increasing food costs become difficult to pass through quickly enough to restaurant customers who remain highly sensitive to the protection of menu price points.
