What do the cloud, collaboration and virtualization have in common?
January 27, 2012
With so much talk and buzz about cloud (computing, storage, application sharing) and Virtualization (server & desktop), it can seem as if though these two IT consolidation trends are trumping the Collaboration movement. Service Providers across the map have readied themselves for cloud computing by partnering with infrastructure and networking providers. Carrier clouds are all the rage: If you’re not selling cloud your customers are likely looking at alternatives. Virtualization services have dramatically increased since the days of pervasive computing, the reawakening VMware anything (server appliances and server blades) and screen scraping data movers and mungers (aka Citrix).
HP without printing: What are they thinking?

HP could sell printing division within two years, reports claim | www.printweek.com
Spurred by recent surprising developments and announcements at HP, an M&A intelligence firm predicts that HP could consider divesting the entire printing division. While there may be some high-level reasons why such a move might seem plausible, I consider it unlikely. Taking a closer look at the business drivers of the imaging industry in general and HP/IPG in particular, my conclusion is that this scenario, while worth a quick look, makes little business sense.

Could NAND Flash Kill DRAM in PCs? | www.cio.com
DRAM will soon have to compete against NAND flash in the PC. Benchmarks have shown that, dollar-for-dollar, NAND provides more performance than does DRAM.This is bad enough news for Micron, Samsung, and Hynix, all of whom make both DRAM and NAND flash, but it is positively deadly for DRAM makers who do not have a strong NAND flash position: Elpida, Powerchip, ProMOS, and Nanya.SSDs will continue to lose out to HDDs in the PC, since a NAND layer gives SSD speeds at a HDD prices & capacities.
