With all of the recent new applications being developed for the tablet (iPad is my case), the ability to track company Intellectual property is getting more difficult and protecting these assets is nearly impossible. Yet IT is challenged with maintaining corporate assets with regards to digital information.
Social Media - A Terabyte of Knowledge or Noise each day

The amount of data that can be gathered by companies on Facebook, twitter, and the many other sources of social media can add up to a terabyte of data a day (and increasing) for companies with even a meager amount of brand recognition. We finally have a source of new information that is like drinking from a fire hose – literally. There is so much information becoming available that all companies are racing to understand and manage this new source of market feedback.
AVB Drops Out of the Race and Becomes a "B" Company?

There have been a number of reports highlighting Avalon Bay's newest strategy of seeking to grow through acquisition of B class assets. There is a good likelihood the strategy will be misunderstood, especially given their "mysterious new research effort." The reality is AVB may be abandoning their previously successful core strategy in an effort to become a clone of EQR. Anyone following EQR knows the mix isn't always magic.
Japanese HDD Companies Experience Component Supply Problems Due to Earthquakes

Hitachi GST and Toshiba have indicated that due to electrical part shortages they will be constrained on their ability to ship HDDs. Hitachi has reported that this impacts all their desktop supply lines and it may impact their notebook drives as well. Toshiba is also experiencing critical HDD IC shortages that will limit their ability to build HDDs in the short term. Continuing earthquakes and power issues could make the supply of these components questionable for some time.

LightSquared - Form over Function?

The wireless industry has undergone a tremendous amount of change over the past couple of years. We've seen a lot of unexpected functionality, and hype, turn into reality - and quite profitably. Although many players in the wireless echo system have changed, network has been the most resistant. LightSquared appears to be bypassing the requisite checklist for building out a nationwide network. Is this another wave of industry change or just a short-sighted business plan running ahead of itself?

RealPage has filed a counterclaim against Yardi, alleging among other things that Yardi engaged in anti-competitive practices and mis-appropriated trade secrets. This latest round of litigation among property services giants seems to be getting more complex with each individual filing. There are some allegations that a former chief information officer took certain intellectual property secrets with him when he joined Yardi. The game begins...

Because of the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan there are spot shortages developing in the semiconductor supply chain. For the last several years large OEMs have made it very difficult to qualify a new vendor because there was no real part shortage' and many of these companies laid off their component engineers who did these qualifications, leaving only a few for end of quarter emergencies.
TomTom - TeleAtlas Not an Acquisition Target

This morning TomTom denied that it was it was in discussions to sell Tele Atlas, a publisher of navigable map databases that it acquired in 2008. It is unlikely the TomTom is seeking an aquirer for Tele Atlas, but it may be shopping the entire company.
