The Bathurst mining district has been intensely explored for over 40 years.
Noranda, the areas main operator, explored the region using proven and new exploration techniques for over 10 years with a cumulative exploration expenditure of over $50 million.
The region is extremely complex geologically and while many "massive sulfides" bodies have been discovered, few have been economically viable due to low zinc and other payable metal content.
