Telecom Pragmatics' Hardball: What Market Recovery?
June 27, 2010
While both AT&T and Verizon have indicated that their CAPEX budgets are flexible (translate that to mean cuts) they have tried to remain active in building out wireline networks, according to Telecom Pragmatics. However, it has become increasingly clear that the recovery forecasted for this year is not happening in any substantial manner. The latest blow to both companies came with the announcement that the secondary housing market lost ground in the last month.

Nokia gives Q2 profit warning | www.boston.com
For now, the sky is not falling on Nokia. Of course, if the news on July 22 is not to Wall Street’s liking all bets are off.
Sprint – Making the Right Move for M2M?
June 23, 2010
Sprint Nextel plans to open M2M centre | www.totaltele.com
M2M has become such a muddled term that it has become of those terms everyone hears and is afraid to ask “M2M, what are you talking about?” Sprint’s take on M2M is as much about being Mobile-2-Mobile as it is being Machine-2-Machine.
Sprint’s HTC Evo 4G – Hit or Miss? Does it Even Matter?

Sprint's HTC EVO 4G: Is It Really That Good | www.lanewsmonitor.com
Sprint’s Evo has been breaking sales records; even if you count their little mistake. The real question is: Is the HTC Evo 4G smartphone a correct step in Sprint Nextel’s turnaround.

Anxiety over network convergence (NC) is finally settled. After a long wait in more than a decade and turf wrestling for a month, NC in China is seeing some light at the end of the tunnel but its outlook is far from clear.
Amdocs – Good News for Vonage but Better for Amdocs

Vonage taps Amdocs for back-office overhaul | blog.connectedplanetonline.com
I have not been following backoffice systems companies lately; I have been busy focusing on rural markets as of late. However, the news woke me up and reminded me to think about backoffice systems as well.
Telecom Pragmatics’ Hardball: Infinera’s Choice
June 12, 2010
To continue to pursue 40G on a PIC would not allow Infinera to make the statement that “this change is neutral to OpEx in 2010, and we intend to continue to bring R&D as a percent of revenue down year over year assuming moderate revenue growth.” At the same time, there will be a price to pay in terms of customers’ confidence in the future development of the chip. On the positive side, Infinera continues to offer novel solutions for problems from the engineers’ perspective.

China Mobile (CMC) reportedly will begin extended trials of TD-LTE, commonly called 4G, after the World Expo. However, it would be mistaken to assume the operator is abandoning TD-SCDMA, a Chinese version of 3G which remains sluggish after nearly two and half years. The market is growing but not at the pace CMC had hoped to see. By the end of April, the latest figure available, CMC added 713,000 new TD-SCDMA customers to a total 8.4 million.
Sprint Nextel’s 3G Network Problems? – Why Are We Still Talking About It?
June 7, 2010
SPRINT NEXTEL’S NETWORK FACES STEEP COMPETITION | www.bizjournals.com
I do not doubt that Sprint Nextel’s network needs upgrading. Sprint’s 3G network was a mess 3 years ago. With the restructuring that has been going on, is it any wonder the carrier still has issues in certain markets? The study basically is documenting what many people already believe. I get it but does it really matter? As for competition in the network business; NO KIDDING.
Dell – Going Private – One Opinion
June 7, 2010
Dell Has Considered Going Private | online.wsj.com
Did Michael Dell just perform a cheap trick to jack up his stock price? I hope not, because his recent statements boosted the price of his stock and if he plans to continue his share repurchases, he just made it more expensive for him. Then again, his intent to continue his share repurchases could be a smoke screen. Then again, why bother thinking about this at all? Does taking Dell private make sense?
