By May, China had 20 million 3G customers, according to data from operators. China Mobile held 9.3 million while China Unicom saw the largest monthly increase for WCDMA with more than 1 million. In part growth is propelled by handset selection, price cut and subsidies. If the momentum can hold, there is a possibility 3G users will reach 35 million by year’s end. During the past two years, 3G projection has been scaled down from 120 million to a subdued 50 million and downward as June passed.
