For some odd reason many, including industry analysts, believe OLED mobile displays consume less power than LCDs. That is generally not correct, but by incorporating smart UI designs OLED can indeed be made to consume less power.

(1) In November of 2009 California Energy Commission (CEC) brought in energy regulation for TVs sold in California and I have analyzed the news on 11/8/2009.(2) California Energy Commission's decision is bound to give a boost for LED-lit LCD TV and already more than 1050 models of TV sold meet the regulation imposed by CEC for 2011 and more than 300 models meet the criterion of 2013.(3) Now five more states are following CEC and will provide further boost to LED-lit LCD TV

(2) Estimated sales in 2010 is around 3-4 Million and the aggressive forecast can go up still further(3) The quality of LEDs employed in iPad ought to be better than those employed in ordinary cell phone and in fact could be better than those in iPhone because of the difference in thermal management.

(1) In 70s and 80s United states had the manufacturing base for LCDs.(2) From US the LCD manufacturing base shifted to Japan(3) From Japan the manufacturing base shifted to Korea and Taiwan(4) Now it is time for China to acquire the base with slightly different scenario. Now the base will be initially run by Korea, Taiwan and Japan. Another unique aspect of this transition is the competition between the three countries in China.
