Italian Government Reaches Union Agreement on Fiat’s CNH Plant | www.bloomberg.com
Italian Labor law is so inflexible about layoffs and forget the future of the plant in Imola if it invovles permanent closure. Italy, behind Spain , is one of the most socialistic countries when it come to labor law giving no flexibility whatsoever to industry in manoeuvering during difficult times, that is while Fiat CEO is scanning the globe and is in bed with Chrysler , not only for high cost production , but also for labor inflexibility.

Defense industry pleads for investment | www.ft.com
To my best of my knowledge the UK defense spending in 2010 is projected to be up by a few percentage points and so as the EU and Nato..so what is the fuss all about..outsourcing? then they have to cry endlessly as this has been the trend for a long time in the world of the defense industry, but perhaps a novelty in Britain.

Konecranes Starts Statutory Negotiations in Headquarter Functions in Hyvinkää | www.konecranes.com
KoneCranes has experienced a 40-50% decline in orders year over year and a restructuring plans in not only warranted but a must. No Moral Comparison / EU handouts to Airbus and Boeing business with Uncle Sam

WTO to rule next week on Airbus funding dispute | www.google.com
To state that a hand to Airbus from Germany , France and Britain is the moral equivalent to legitimate services rendered by Boeing to the US government is none sense . The Europeans must learn how to do business and compete in the real world and subsidies is immoral and anti-competitive. The European and EU Government complain about China and other Asian dumping laws yet they practice the same.

Platinum auto demand drop signals global slowdown | money.cnn.com
ETF platinum demand has surged in the first quarter of 2009 as Pt prices reach temporary parity with gold. Platinum is attracting many financial buyers who see it as a far better store of value at the current Pt price than Au which is close to its all time high. Pt and Pd recycle rates have also dramatically declined in the post October 2008 world as margins of recyclers have collapse and reduced the incentive for scrap deals to process catalytic converters These two factors, plus shut-ins of primary production have largely offset demand destruction in the US and European auto industry. Currently supply/demand look balanced for both Pt and Pd. Any recovery in auto sales in the second half should be translated into higher prices.

Coal Prices Crumble | www.forbes.com
Both steam and metallurgical coal demand are down. United States steam coal (for electricity generation) is down due to the economic slump affecting industrial demand and switching to cheaper natural gas-fired electricity generation in some areas of the nation. Metallurgical coal demand is down due to the crushing drop in steel production domestically and globally. Although coal demand is down significantly, it does not necessarily allow coal under contract to be excused for purchase.
