Vodafone and AT&T improving in-home mobile reception to boost revenues

Vodafone promises indoor mobile signal boost | www.v3.co.uk
More and more people are starting to realize that mobile phones are much more practical than the old fashioned "land line phone". With a mobile phone you are always reachable and a mobile phone has a built-in address book unlike the land line where you have to look up the number (on your mobile phone!) before you can dial it. Given the almost limitless number of minutes that cell phone plans provide these days, it seems to make sense to abandon the land line. However one problem remains: the cell phone reception inside homes is not always perfect.

Why Dell shouldn't buy Palm, but go with Android

Why Dell should buy Palm | www.computerworld.com
I agree with the author of the original article that DELL should have a smart phone offering like all other PC vendors, however Palm is the wrong choice for DELL. DELL has gotten to where they are by making reliable laptops, desktops and servers, that are priced better than their competition. DELL's whole culture is based on efficient manufacturing of no frills computers, Palm's culture is all about design, those two cultures do not work well together.

Can windows 7 save the PC market? | hvrietsc.blogspot.com
Microsoft's latest Operating System called Windows 7 (Win7) has lots going for it: new features, better performance, greener, easier to use etc, but its scheduled release this fall will not significantly boost PC sales. Consumers are not ready to spend extra money while we are in a recession, and more and more consumers are moving to "doing it all in the browser" or cloud computing as the experts call it. Plus with the current smart phones like the iPhone from Apple they are needing a "real" PC less and less.

What are the most dangerous seearch terms on the Internet? | hvrietsc.blogspot.com
Internet threats like Phishing, man-in-the-browser attacks, and keyloggers are all terms that might sound scary (or not) to the average computer users, but what they do not realize is how vunerable they are when they are simply "surfing the web". Did you know that a certain set of viruses exists that are only detectable when they are running inside your corporate LAN (in other words when it is too late)? How can IT departments protect themselves from undetectable viruses?

In the consumer security market it is all about getting your product onto the PC before the consumer buys it. So it is essential for a consumer security company like Symantec to partner with the laptop and desktop manufacturers like HP. It also explains why McAfee is hoping to woo the contract away from Symantec.

Even though we are in the mids of a global recession and money is scarce, international startups still want to set up shop in the very expensive Silicon Valley. Why is that? Well, the Valley offers everything a start-up needs and one year in the Valley is equal to 5 years some place else.
the new iPhone could spell trouble for the gadget industry

Will the new iPhone make all my other gadgets unecessary? | hvrietsc.blogspot.com
The new iPhone 3GS announced yesterday is not only a phone, but also a music player, a video player, a digital camera, a video recorder, video editing application, voice recorder, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), and a GPS unit. You can get all of this for $199 plus a cell phone contract (which you already have), which is much cheaper than buying all these gadgets by themselves. Now with the recession going on and people trying to save money will the rest of the gadget industry suffer while Apple thrives?
