I will agree, that a collapse is overkill. But I see a softening of transactions and more projects help up at CFO level and because companies can't hire, and retain talent efficiently. This talent is the hold up of implementing new technologies, none the least is datacenter challenges around power. Wan Opt product realization of layer 4 possible challenges, may change course of companies looking for wan opt done at layer 3 instead.

WAN optimization may not be considered a luxury when customers have no choice but to add it to their infrastructure when bandwidth options are limited and response times have eroded. Adding more bandwidth or server power does not solve all latency and performance issues, and optimization becomes the logical pursuit. A great deal of the novelty of the technology has faded as it has become much more familiar technology to IT professionals.

Google's team edition of Google apps seems like an IT worst nightmare: all the company documents on a public server. But is it really that bad? What about having all your sales leads on a public server, wouldn't that be even worse? Oh wait isn't that what salesforce.com is all about? Completely outsourced IT services will be the future. Why have your own data center if you can rent the services on a as needed basis? Companies do not have their own power generators so why have your own data center or your own IT staff? What needs to happen before we can get there?
