Dell – Going Private – One Opinion
June 7, 2010
Dell Has Considered Going Private | online.wsj.com
Did Michael Dell just perform a cheap trick to jack up his stock price? I hope not, because his recent statements boosted the price of his stock and if he plans to continue his share repurchases, he just made it more expensive for him. Then again, his intent to continue his share repurchases could be a smoke screen. Then again, why bother thinking about this at all? Does taking Dell private make sense?

FCC ‘third-way’ regulation gets bi-partisan slam | blog.connectedplanetonline.com
The judicial and legislative processes are interesting. The federal courts tell the FCC that it is overstepping its authority in how the agency enforces certain broadband rules. The FCC responds by ignoring the courts and looking for a loophole to create rules that will allow them to do what the courts said it is not allowed to do.

AT&T Looks Beyond the iPhone for Growth | online.wsj.com
1) at&t has to make a massive investment to fix a totally inadequate wireless network.2) locking new iphone users into contracts which many are not satisfied with (due to their crappy wireless network) isnt enough to stem wireless customers losses. 3) the elephant in the room--a horrible dsl customer experience--they must be bleeding at a massive rate there. desperate attempt to get revenue: blame every failure on in-home wiring and charge customers for call-out without fixing the problem...

AT&T Looks Beyond the iPhone for Growth | online.wsj.com
Exclusive vendor relationships are good and bad. I think exclusive vendor relationships are generally (long term) bad for the carrier and the vendor. Exclusivity sounds exciting and great because there is always a short-term bump in perceived value but in the long-term, the value diminishes.

Net Neutrality: Not the End of the World | www.wirelessweek.com
It has been years since I have participated in any discussion regarding usage based pricing. Usage based pricing disappeared in the early to mid-1990s with the appearance of flat rate plans. However, with net neutrality on the horizon, the concerns regarding overall network capacity has reared its head.

FCC Web Rules Create Pushback | online.wsj.com
The judicial and legislative processes are interesting. The federal courts tell the FCC that it is overstepping its authority in how the agency enforces certain broadband rules. The FCC responds by ignoring the courts and looking for a loophole to create rules that will allow them to do what the courts said it is not allowed to do. I have stated that I did not expect the FCC to take the court’s decision lying down. I just find the entire process interesting. It has not reached the level of sausage making but it certainly is getting there.
