The point should be to focus on applications, but not just any applications. There should be a focus on Valued Added Service (VAS) applications. What VAS applications? Interactive video, augmented reality, and applications that extend social networking to mobile for anytime, anywhere interactivity in a real engaging way. The carriers (especially the tier one carriers, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile) should not be battling over who is faster – they should battle over who has the most compelling applications that just happen to dependent high bandwidth.

With the Qualcomm acquisition of Atheros, could they have aspirations of taking hybrid WiFi to a whole new level? On the surface, it would seem that Atheros HyFi, WiFi hybrid with powerline is just a useful way of extending WiFi coverage without a conventional repeater. Upon closer inspection, it could be one of the many solutions to enable better location determination for the indoor environment.
