SST Strengthens Management Team by Appointing Bertrand F. Cambou as President | www.marketwatch.com

Bertrand Cambou has moved into his new role as President at SST, a company mired in a difficult situation: a fabless embedded memory semiconductor company that is trying to re-invent itself as a NAND controller company. In reaching for outside management, the Board acknowledges that the existing senior management team of Bing Yeh (CEO), Dr. Yaw Wen Hu (COO), Paul Lui (SVP), and Chen Tsai (SVP) need an outsider to energize the company.

Verizon Deployment of Nakina Systems Inc. to create a multi-vendor Common Element Management System (CEMS) is a step in the right direction

May 21, 2009

Verizon Saves Millions With OSS Strategy | www.lightreading.com

Deploying a Common Element Management System (CEMS) is a good first step.  The next steps should be to drive all vendors towards complance with standards and frameworks including §        Telecommunication Management Network (TMN) and FCAPS to ensure interoperability.  The long-term goal is to have a completely seamless and homogenous system throughout, which is difficult to achieve in a multivendor environment.

May 4, 2009

The Mobile Duopoly | www.unstrung.com

Quite the contrary to the question, "With Verizon Wireless aggressively competing against its archrival, it “could be the downfall of this mobile duopoly?", this could mean the downfall of the likes of Metro PCS, Leap Wireless and others as these two behemoths duke it out.

Managed services is the trend for carriers

May 4, 2009

Sprint Is in Talks to Outsource Its Network | online.wsj.com

It would not suprise, and in many ways make sense, for Sprint to outsource, especially to Ericsson.  If Sprint does merge with T-Mobile, this would give some operational synergies.

Wireless carriers will need to embrace VoIP as an inevitable fact of life with lower pricing

April 27, 2009

3 pushes free Skype calls | www.telecoms.com

As various VoIP trends continue, including Skype for mobile, Google Voice, and LTE VoLGA, the wireless carriers will need to implement an embracing strategy rather than a purely defensive strategy.  Voice revenues are clearly under fire.  Carriers should shore up revenues and look to VAS applications as voice margins will surely decrease.

Verizon Wireless is smart to facilitate developer community for LTE

April 27, 2009

Verizon: Calling all LTE developers | blog.telephonyonline.com

LTE will be more about VAS applications and the need to have robust OSS/BSS systems to support them rather than just a bigger data pipe to sell more subscriptions and usage.  Soon after voice, data (as purely a bearer) will also become commoditized.  It will be important to develop many and varied applications that depend on high speed, but can be billed as a premium service.

Many Applications do not Require IMS, but it will Drive Positive ROI through a Common OAM+&P

April 20, 2009

Starent Networks' New Platform Bridges Legacy and Next-Gen All-IP Multimedia Networks | ip-pbx.tmcnet.com

While IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is not required for many services (for example, Service Delivery Platforms [SDP] can be used), IMS will provide intelligent network type control for carriers that will be required to fully scale and operate IP services in a carrier environment.   Equally important, and the real driver for ROI, is a common OAM&P environment.
