Ireland will probably resort to some form of rescue deal with the EU-IMF. However, Ireland needs to avoid becoming tied to inappropriate policies as current European disunity over policy runs the risk of imposing rigid and indiscriminate policies on individual economies. This has already introduced a recessionary bias to Europe’s collective policy stance and negated meaningful policy coordination.
G20: The U.S. Dictates New Rules for the Global Game

The U.S. message at the G20 is the following: if we do not act together to rebalance the world economy, the US will act unilaterally to rescue its economy. This will entail a change in the rules of the global game as the U.S. will try to impose its will via the printing press by inflating the rest of the world or forcing their currencies to appreciate relative to the dollar.
