What Will LTE Bring for China Mobile?
July 24, 2011
China Mobile’s plan to build TD-LTE networks has generated a lot of interest lately. The news came when the operator is trapped in TD-SCDMA after hefty investment, but new questions arise as to whether LTE will become a new driver. At this time, no one really knows, not even CMCC leadership. Here are some of my thoughts.
Major Shift in PC Memory Could Harm DRAM Makers

Could NAND Flash Kill DRAM in PCs? | www.cio.com
DRAM will soon have to compete against NAND flash in the PC. Benchmarks have shown that, dollar-for-dollar, NAND provides more performance than does DRAM.This is bad enough news for Micron, Samsung, and Hynix, all of whom make both DRAM and NAND flash, but it is positively deadly for DRAM makers who do not have a strong NAND flash position: Elpida, Powerchip, ProMOS, and Nanya.SSDs will continue to lose out to HDDs in the PC, since a NAND layer gives SSD speeds at a HDD prices & capacities.

Don’t Want to Run Errands? Site Lets You Outsource Them | blogs.wsj.com
TaskRabbit is a great idea. I liken it to personal assistants people hire to perform the mundane tasks they refuse to do for themselves. I liken it to temp hires.

CORRECT: Fundtech Agrees To S1 Merger In Deal That Values Co At $318 Million | online.wsj.com
Clearly, bigger is an advantage for bank tech providers. With Fiserv and FIS as the two 800 pound gorillas, the small and mid-tier players need to successfully consolidate to thrive. There is probably room for a third gorilla, and not many good reasons for keeping around the small chimps.

I congratulate RIM for boosting its numbers in EMEA. However, it is an age-old trick that new technology companies in North America have used to generate their first revenues and sometimes to boost unit sales. Unfortunately, RIM’s revenue numbers are dropping.
