We wrote in a recent Hardball article that “the latest indications are that Apple has no current intentions of doing business with Verizon on a 4G device.  One problem is that Verizon’s top leadership has apparently been highly arrogant in its dealings with Apple."  Yet, the bigger reason for potentially passing a 2nd time on the iPhone (including one that works on 3G) is that it is a big bandwidth hog and Verizon’s network could be adversely affected with consumers downloading videos, etc.

Exclusive vendor relationships are good and bad. I think exclusive vendor relationships are generally (long term) bad for the carrier and the vendor. Exclusivity sounds exciting and great because there is always a short-term bump in perceived value but in the long-term, the value diminishes.

Our company, Telecom Pragmatics, is finding it increasingly difficult to find people at Verizon that do not believe that the wireless service provider is going with Rev B.   The only individuals that seem to be in the dark about it are the public relations people at the company.  In fact, it is not out of the question that a Rev B upgrade could occur as quickly as the start of next year.

The judicial and legislative processes are interesting. The federal courts tell the FCC that it is overstepping its authority in how the agency enforces certain broadband rules. The FCC responds by ignoring the courts and looking for a loophole to create rules that will allow them to do what the courts said it is not allowed to do. I have stated that I did not expect the FCC to take the court’s decision lying down. I just find the entire process interesting. It has not reached the level of sausage making but it certainly is getting there.

The prepaid marketplace is not the refuge of the lower economic strata; the prepaid market is where customers go when they wish to have greater control over the fees they pay and services they use. In the 1990s, folks with poor credit ratings used prepaid; there was a stigma about prepaid.
